Fuel Pumps
Right Heres a Question - i am part way threw re-building my 1275 engine and have got a weber 45 to go on it - i know a mini is supposed to have su but i am sick of recalibrating them and 45 are abut quicker. I Got a road/rally camshaft drop in it and in doing this u have to remove the old mechanical fuel pump. I know this car is gonna be a gas guzzler - but if u want the horses to run u gotta feed them. I then posed myself the question - is this rather small looking mech fuel pump really gonna feed the 45 enought fuel once its been tuned to the cam??

Fuel pumps
Hello everyone wonder if you can help. I am just about to fit twin HS2s and a stage 3 cylinder head with 1.5:1 roller rockers to my 1275cc engine and wondered if there would be any real neeed to exchange the fuel pump for an electric one? If so which one would you recommend and how easy are they to fit? Thanks Pablo for your answer to my exhaust query.

Mechanical Fuel Pump?!
On the mechanical fuel pump there is a small breather hole on the underside. When I Rev my engine oil pores out this breather hole. None or very little comes out at idle but then you got out on a run the entire final drive houseing is covered and most of the underside of the car. I am fairly sure this is the location of the leak cos i have reved it and u can see it dripping of the bottom of the pump. Is this a fault with the fuel pump or some kind of oil pressure problem. The fule pump apears to be operating ok except for this oil

Fuel Pump Problem
Hi, Our mini stopped last night after running fine, turned over but would not fire. Called the rac and he tracked the problem to the fuel pump not getting the live feed. Hooked a temp feed from the battery and it started fine. Is there a fuse or relay I need to check / replace, if so, other than the bulkhead fusebox, where might I look ? Its a 94 Cooper 1.3i Thanks in advance Kevin

i had this problem once but i could find no cure! in the end i replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an electric one and simply blanked off the hole at the back of the engine. you could also put an engine breather out of this hole because i has seen this done before!

Fuel pump problem
Hey everyone, I have a 92 neon with a mid 80s metro engine in it. My problem started today, I only resently acquired the mini. While driving, I started losing power, like I was running out of gas, and when I pushed on the accelerator, it fell flat. It got worse quikely, so I pulled over, shut the ignition off, and started it back up, it ran perfectly for about 2 miles and then started doing the same thing again. When the ignition is turned on there is a loud humming coming from the rear of the mini, Im assuming this is the fuel pump, today it didnt sound right. It sounded more irregular, and not as loud. Does this sound like a fuel pump problem, or could it be something else. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Fuel pump noise?
Ive just filled up my 95 sprite to drive away with a resonably loud buzzing noise. it sounded like the radio speakers were hissing but closer inspection shows it is comming from the fuel pump in the fuel tank. what could this be? It is quite loud and sounds electrical and is only there when the engine is running. any ideas to what it might be would be great. Thanks in advance. Nic

Where shall i put the fuel pump?
Facet square style fast road pump. From past reading i remember that you should put it as close to the tank as possible. Seems a bit messy with the fuel pipes....

Dead Fuel Pump???
I believe that I may have fried my fuel pump yesterday, but need some hints on what to look for. The car is a Blue Star (guessing about 1996?) SPI. Wife was driving and we believe ran out of fuel, but left the ign. on. It turns over, but wont start, I checked for spark, but there is no spark either. Im guessing the ecu is preventing the spark since it senses no fuel. Is this correct? I havent had time to check and see if the lines are pressurized, but Im guessing not. Can I take a voltage tester, and test the leads going into the fuel pump to determine if its dead? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Nik

hi (again). My mates Mini recently broke down as the car suddenly started jolting and then completely cut out. When trying to start the car, it would fire then immediatley cut out, and now, just nothing at all. I,ve checked the usuals and I'm confident its a fueling issue. The carb and pipes are fine, it has enough fuel, etc and therefore, I decided to replace the fuel pump. However, still no luck. Any ideas? nice 1

hmm could be the distributor, ht leads, ignition problems, bad wires......Try spraying some WD40 on the HT leads heads that connect to the sprak plugs that always works for me in WINTER! when the car wont start

maybe the carb float is sticking? u cheaked for signs of headgasget failure? personally id be tempted to strip carb and rebuild it, its not that hard it might just be piston sticking or something and cheak that there is enouth dashpot oil. is strange car starting but then just cutting out. are there any fuel filters in place that could of become clogged? is it running well when it starts or is it running rough?

It runs fine once started. No, it has no fuel filter. And I've checked the float chamber and needle. Both are fine, although I haven't carried ou a full strip down.

mine is also doing some weird things at the mo
i have found that the LT side of the coil circuit can also cause problems
with loose and dirty spade connections causeing a miss fire
but at the moment, mine has a no fire and is very unpridictable when it does it
i pulled out the plugs, 1 and 2 were perfect, and 3 and 4 were sooty
which i found very strange for a single carb operation
but I also am looking for enlightenment

Mechanical fuel pump problems.
I believe mine decided to pack up today. Resulting in causing lots of traffic and being towed home by my mums BMW Mini. Kind of embarassing.
Anyway, to the point, are these units prone to packing up? I had some trouble a few months ago and wasn't too sure if it was dirt blocking up the carb. As when I broke down before this time, quickly going under the bonnet and wrenching/hitting/swearing at the carb made it worked and hardly gave any trouble afterwards.
I doubt the 400 mile round trip in 2 days didn't help. And that about 95% was pretty much flat out on motorway.
Another thought was the pipe from the pump to the carb is very close to the exhaust manifold. Infact it proberly touches with movement. This wouldn't cause the fuel to evaporate? I suppose trying to start it cold would dertim that.
I'll be back soon!
